Settings Reference

Open settings by pressing , or clicking the gear icon in the sidebar. Settings are organized into sections.

Display

Control how Nix It displays information.

Group by Conversation

Default: On

When enabled, groups related emails into conversation threads. Helps you see the full context of email exchanges in one place.

Show Unread Counts

Default: Off

Display unread counts on all folders in the sidebar. Shows how many unread items are in each folder.

Items & Actions

Configure how items behave when you interact with them.

Action Buttons

Default: Done and Nix

Controls which action buttons appear on item cards in the Intake:

Choose "Nix only" if you prefer to use the Canvas for tracking completed items rather than archiving immediately.

When Closing Items

Default: Move to Archive

What happens when you mark an item as Done:

Email Deletion in Outlook

Default: Keep in Archive

What happens to the underlying email in Outlook when you permanently delete an email item:

This setting only affects emails, not tasks or events.

Composing

Settings for writing and sending emails.

Undo Send

Default: On (10 seconds)

Delays sending emails to allow you to undo. After clicking Send, you have a brief window to cancel.

  • Toggle on/off
  • When on, set delay duration (5-60 seconds)

Auto-insert Signature

Default: On

Automatically inserts your default signature when composing new emails.

Email Signatures

Manage your email signatures:

  • Create multiple signatures
  • Set a default signature
  • Edit or delete existing signatures

Signatures support rich text formatting.

Reading

Settings for how you view emails.

Mark as Read

Default: When email is opened

When to automatically mark emails as read:

When "After a delay" is selected, you can set the delay duration (1-60 seconds).

Notifications

Control alerts for new items.

Enable Notifications

Default: Off

Master toggle for all notifications. When you first enable this, your browser will ask for permission to show notifications.

Desktop Notifications

Default: On (when notifications enabled)

Show browser notifications when new items arrive. These appear even when Nix It isn't in focus.

Badge Count

Default: On (when notifications enabled)

Show the unread count in your browser tab. Helps you see at a glance if new items have arrived.

Sound Notifications

Default: On (when notifications enabled)

Play a sound when new items arrive.

When enabled, you can customize:

Calendar

Settings for calendar behavior.

Create Items for Events

Default: On

When enabled, new calendar events automatically appear in your Intake as items. When disabled, events stay in the calendar only.

If disabled, you can still manually create items from specific events using the "Add to Intake" button in the event details.

During initial account sync, this setting is temporarily ignored to prevent flooding your Intake with past events.

Remove Declined Events

Default: On

When enabled, events you decline are removed from your calendar view. When disabled, declined events remain visible (useful if you want awareness of meetings you're not attending).

Out of Office

Configure automatic email replies.

Automatic Replies

Set up out-of-office messages for when you're away:

  • Enable/disable automatic replies
  • Set start and end dates
  • Write separate messages for internal and external senders

Messages sync with your Outlook automatic reply settings.
